Oryx Antelopes, called Gemsbok (pronounced Hems Bok) by the South Africans, live in the harshest environment in the world, the Great Namib Desert of Namibia. There is neither much vegetation nor water. Their markings are distinctive with black mask-like markings on the head and face and a sandy beige body with white trim. Their horns are straight and saber-like and can be quite dangerous.
