A Spiritual Path: Watercolor Quilt 

Designed for Deb Lister of  Living Yoga Center, Champaign, Illinois.

I taught and practiced there at the yoga studio where this quilt now hangs.  The director of the studio asked me to design a quilt for her.  She said she wanted the logo of her studio in the quilt but left the rest up to me.  This quilt is full of symbolism.  The sunrise is the traditional time when yoga is practiced.  We practiced Vinyasa Yoga at LYC which involves flowing from one pose to another and we always started with sun salutations which are traditionally done at sunrise.  There is an OM quilted into the sun which symbolizes spiritual purity and is considered by some religions to be the first sound of the universe.  It is one of the oldest mantras used in yoga and other spiritual traditions.  I put her logo of a person doing a “tree” pose on a path.  Yoga is a path, a way of life in totality.  So this seemed appropriate.
