Deep Red and Taupe Beads Luster beads gone wild
Full Size Image Never judge a book by it's dust cover or a bead by its cover of dust.I started this necklace with the ugliest bead I had ever seen. I was stranded in South Africa on a project. As usual, I was sent for a short contract that was extended. I had carried my beading tools with me, but little else. My colleagues directed me to this little bead store, and I bought a bag of luster beads. In this bag was this ugly twisted bead. It was dusty and sort of a gun metal taupe. As a joke, I started out to build a necklace around it. The joke is on me. The bead became lustrous and interesting. The seasons had changed from hot to cool, and when you are two days of travel by air from home, you don't run home for a change of clothing. I needed a tunic sweater necklace so I made the necklace extra long and worked in all kinds of beads and color changes. The bead store was just starting out and hadn't many clasp choices so I antiqued a little gold plated toggle. I could change out the clasp, but somehow it fits the look. Actually I came to love this little mass of hand made beads, and the little 'ugly' bead just whirled, glowed and turned so charmingly when I wore it. I came to think of it as my little whirling dervish. Components: 2.5 inch Handcrafted Drop, Riot of Luster & Other Beads, Seed Beads, 14K Gold Filled Fittings,Antiqued Toggle Clasp
