This scene is a small rivulet off to the side of the main falls above Washington, D.C. on the Potomac River. George Washington surveyed the path of the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal which allowed barge traffic to navigate around the falls. There are still quiet footpaths there along which the mules would pull the barges that plied the canal.
This painting is in the collection of the artist and is available only as a Giclée print.
