{mosimage} Salt River SoliloquyLimited Edition Giclee PrintThe original watercolor was done in response to the call for entries in the Fiesta Sonoran 2008 Desert Museum Art Show, July 19, 2008. Entries are required to illustrate some aspect of the Sonoran Desert region, a large portion of southwest Arizona and the uppper part of Mexico immediately adjacent to Arizona, including the upper half of the Baja. This image shows the Salt River and cliffs just North of Mesa, Arizona, when the desert was at it's peak of blooming. The Mexican poppies and brittle bush covered the countryside. It's a sight worth going out of your way to see.
Soliloquy, according to the dictionary, is a theatrical monologue or speech, in which the speaker talks to himself or reveals his thoughts without addressing a listener. The Salt River, like all rivers and other bodies of water, speaks to us silently. It cares not if we listen. It was there when the first people came and will probably be there when we're all gone, telling it's story to no one in particular, shaping the rocks and land. Yet it draws us to it like a moth to a flame. Water fascinates and charms. It is essential to all life

| Blue Train Part 2 |
| Having checked in for our trip to Pretoria on the Famed Blue Train, we were welcomed by the staff and given a handsome booklet describing the services available to guests, much like you would find in your room in a luxury hotel. There was a boutique where one could purchase gifts and souvenirs. It informed us that our Butler would be on duty from 0600 hours to 2300 hours. It also informed us that there was a business service, pharmacy and chemist on duty, valet and housekeeping services and much more. There was a good sized bathroom with a shower finished in Italian marble in the suite. The compartment walls were paneled in beautiful wood and was furnished with comfortable lounge chairs. | |
